Start of Semester Info

Update Academic and Disciplinary Contacts This is mandatory for all undergraduate students and must be updated each academic year. Click on the above link to identify authorized contacts or opt out. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974 prohibits postsecondary educational instutitions from disclosing the education’s records of students to most third-parties without the student’s explicit written consent. Under the provisions of FERPA, parents are considered to be third-parties and student information may not be disclosed to a parent without the student’s explicit written consent.

Before you head out for class on Monday, log into Banner to check your class schedule. Already did when schedules were released? That’s okay, it’s still a good idea to check again, just in case a room assignment has changed.

Select the ‘Banner’ icon at the top of this page. (This one: Self Service Banner (SSB))

That’s where you can then click on “student schedule” and/or “concise student schedule” to view all of your courses, the course modality (remote or in person), meeting times & the current room assignment.

If you need to make any adjustments to any courses, please note that the add/drop deadline is Wednesday, Sept. 6.

To help you find your classrooms, here is a list of common buildings that are abbreviated on your course schedule. As you’re walking around campus and might need a little extra guidance, keep our Interactive Campus Map handy over these next few weeks!

Before classes begin, take a peek inside Canvas to check out the list of the courses you are enrolled in. (Click this icon at the top of this page: Canvas).

Make sure they are active, and, if available, read through the syllabus for each course. If you aren’t seeing a syllabus, don’t worry, professors will be uploading information once classes begin!

Canvas is also where you’ll also find course assignments, grades, and instructor contact information. Additionally, you’ll be able to see what materials are required for each course.

If you haven’t already, be sure to check out our campus bookstore, where you can find materials you’ll need for your courses… Plus, you may find a cool new sweatshirt or hat to rock around campus!

(Psst! Check out “Happening on Campus” lower on this page to access a 30% off coupon at the bookstore!)

At the start of the semester, it’s a good idea to become familiar with Navigate. (Click this icon at the top of this page: Navigate).

Navigate is where you can make appointments with a variety of offices on campus, including the Center for Student Success, the Center for Learning Resources, One Stop, and more!

Also, be sure to keep an eye on your email once the semester begins, for any faculty alerts coming through Navigate.

Speaking of the Center for Student Success and the Center for Learning Resources, both are useful resources available to all of our University of New Haven students during their academic journey.

The Center for Learning Resources (CLR), located in the lower level of the Marvin K. Peterson Library, provides academic peer tutoring and professional tutoring support by helping students gain awareness of and learn how to apply optimal learning processes in the creative pursuit of becoming independent learners.

The Center for Student Success (CSS), located on the main level of Maxcy Hall, provides students with the opportunity to meet with a success advisor to discuss any academic questions or concerns. The CSS’s mission is to familiarize students with the multitude of resources available on campus and to help students make progress toward fulfilling their educational, social, and personal goals.

Confirm Your Enrollment

This survey is quick and mandatory. It lets you notify the university whether you will attend your classes this fall or not.

As people’s lives change, they may decide that now is not the right time to attend University of New Haven. We understand. Letting us know either way helps us plan and manage available seats in classes for all of our students.
