Dear Members of the University Community,
I am saddened to share that Michael Rolleri, a longtime faculty member, died on Sunday after a courageous battle with cancer. A passionate and devoted educator, Mike was a beloved accounting professor at the University for 42 years until his retirement in 2021, when he was named an emeritus professor.
A former chair of the Department of Accounting, Finance, and Marketing, Mike received an Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award and a Dean’s Excellence in Service Award during his distinguished teaching career.
His scholarly research examined the benefits of annual audits on small business and motives for profit-sharing as well as defined-benefit plans and U.S. and Japanese pension plans. Mike began his accounting career at Aruthur Andersen and was a longtime partner in the accounting firm of Whelan Rolleri & DePietro.
Mike was also active in Faculty Governance, helping to write the University’s Faculty Handbook and serving as chair of the Faculty Affairs Committee for several years.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Mike’s life on Sunday, November 3, at 2 p.m. at Nichols United Methodist Church, 35 Shelton Rd., Trumbull. Interment will be private. Friends may greet the family on Saturday, November 2, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd., Trumbull, CT. Read Mike’s obituary.
Join me in extending our condolences to Michael’s wife, Sara, and their four children, and the countless colleagues and students he impacted.
Sincerely,
Nancy Ortins Savage
Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs
