Membership

Students- Academic Year (Undergraduate and Graduate) 

All students will need to activate their membership to the Beckerman Recreation Center through our member portal before their first use of the facility. The Beckerman Recreation Center Membership fee for all current full-time and part-time University Of New Haven undergraduate and graduate students is included in their student fees during the academic year. *Please note: students will not appear in our system/have access until the day after registering for classes.

How to activate your member profile (18 years of age or older) to access the Beckerman Recreation Center:  

Visit https://newhaven.clubautomation.com Click “Forgot Password?”

  1. Fill in your University of New Haven email address.
  2. You will receive an email with instructions to set up your account.
  3. Review and sign the Assumption of Risk, Waiver, and Release from Liability Agreement.
  4. Please also fill out the emergency contact section to continue to activate your account.
  5. You will finalize your account on your first visit to the facility where we will take your profile picture.

How to activate your membership (Under 18 years of age)  

If you will be under 18 years of age when you first come to the Beckerman Recreation Center, please follow the instructions below to access your account.  

  1. Share this link with your parent/guardian for them to sign your Assumption of Risk, Waiver, and Release from Liability Agreement.
  2. Once the agreement is signed, the student should visit the Beckerman Recreation Center during hours of operation and ask the staff what are your next steps to activate your membership.
  3. We will verify that we have received the form, take your membership photo, and you’re ready to Rec.
  4. When you turn 18, stop by and sign your own waiver (and celebrate your birthday with a workout)!

Additional Memberships

University of New Haven faculty, staff, alumni, and affiliates of the university are eligible to purchase memberships. Employees that are also enrolled in academic classes must purchase a membership.  Please visit our Membership Page for more detail and links to application forms.  Student summer membership information will be posted each Spring semester.

Academic Year Standard Hours of Operation* 

Begins August 22, 2024 

Monday – Thursday: 6 a.m. – 11:30 p.m.
Friday: 6 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Saturday: 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. 
Sunday: 11 a.m. – 10 p.m.

Facility Access & Member Portal

Member’s valid University ID, App, or scan tag is required for entry to the facility. Use of another person’s student ID/App will result in a suspension of your facility access.

Account set up and facility access begins 7 days prior to the first day of classes. Additionally, 24 hours after registering for classes.  For Fall: August 19, 2024

Once a member has set up their account with a Student ID and taken a membership photo, they may utilize the ChargerREC App to scan into the facility.

All semester student memberships are included with tuition, but all students must activate their membership through the member portal. This portal log in is DIFFERENT from your MyCharger profile, so please click ‘Forgot My Password‘  and use your University email address when prompted. You will receive an email with password re-set instructions.

Log into the portal to see announcements, register for GroupX, book a badminton court and more!

Court Reservations

Member Portal self-service

Active members can reserve a badminton court in the member portal. Visit the Membership section for instructions on setting up your portal account.

  • Reservations become available one day before the reservation.
  • 30-60-90 minute slots
  • Up to two reservations can be made per day but must be separated by a 2-hour break. 
  • No member can make more than 2 reservations in one day. Click here for more details.
  • Courts may have limited availability due to events, Patrons should bring their own equipment, although a limited amount of shuttlecocks are available for checkout. A maximum of 2 can be checked out per reservation.

Lawn Game Reservations

ChargerREC Lawn Game reservations are temporarily suspended while we make improvements to our games and rental process. They will resume August 26th, 2024.

I am a First Year Undergraduate, New Graduate or Transfer Student, what do I need to do to activate my membership to the Beckerman Recreation Center?

During the Academic Year, the Beckerman Recreation Center Membership fee for all current full-time and part-time University Of New Haven undergraduate and graduate students is included in their student fees. Account set up and facility access begin 1 week prior to the first day of classes. For Spring 2024, you can set up your account on or after January 9, 2024.

How do I check into the Beckerman Recreation Center?

Upon a member’s first visit to the facility the member will:

  • review and sign an Assumption of Risk, Waiver, and Release from Liability Agreement
  • present a University ID Card
  • take a membership photo

After the first visit, members can present either a University ID or scan their ChargerREC app for entry

The Beckerman Recreation Center is a 56,600-square-foot student recreation center that features multi-purpose group fitness studios; weight room & fitness center; racquetball courts; hardwood activity courts (for basketball, volleyball, and badminton); a multi-activity court (for basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer, floor/roller hockey & various other activities); jogging track; juice bar; locker rooms (men’s, women’s & individual use) and lounge areas.

Student employees are empowered to manage the programs of ChargerREC and the operations of the Beckerman Recreation Center. ChargerREC is the largest student employer on-campus, employing over 150 students each year.  We will host employment info sessions when we are looking for new Team members to work as instructors, intramural officials, club sport supervisors, member services assistants, event staff and building supervisors.

We host interns of related areas so please email chargerrec@newhaven.edu if you have an academic internship for sport management, exercise science, marketing, or video production.

All job postings and info sessions will be posted on ChargerLink. 

In addition to the Beckerman Recreation Center, students have access to two turf fields (DellaCamera Stadium and Zolad Stadium) and the University of New Haven Tennis Courts.

Club Sports are athletic-based student organizations, which compete with other universities and colleges.

Club Sports are student-led organizations under the guidance of ChargerREC. Competition and practice schedules are subject to change due to each team’s varying competitive level, resources, and team organization.

Club Sports are a great way to stay active, engage in friendly competition, and learn leadership skills. Get to know our teams by reaching out to them directly to learn more about tryouts, game schedules, fundraising activities, and meet the athletes on each team.

Intramurals

Play sports with other University of New Haven students by participating in Intramurals!  Create an IMLeagues account today so you can quickly register for upcoming programs, create/join teams, and connect with Intramural staff.  

We play cricket, basketball, volleyball, softball, flag football, lawn games and MORE!  Look for games to be played both inside the Beckerman Recreation Center as well as at fields on campus.

Spinning, Yoga, Cardio & More!

You’ll need to activate your FREE account in order to attend classes. Pre-registration is required.

Classes are included with memberships and are held weekly. You can attend one or attend them all! Our trained instructors will guide you through a great workout session so you can work toward your fitness goals. Please review our GroupX policies & registration information 

Register through your member portal to save your spot in class up to 2 days in advance. Then, check in with a staff member on your way into the classroom. Class descriptions and registration are under the ‘GroupX’ tab.
