By applying for a University of New Haven parking permit, you are agreeing to abide by all rules and regulations pertaining to the operation and parking of any motor vehicle under your control.

Permits are required

• All persons who will be parking a motor vehicle on property owned or controlled by the University of New Haven, or who are in local University-sponsored housing (Forest Hills, Savin Court, Main Street Apartments, The Atwood, and Park View) are required to display a valid University of New Haven parking permit on their vehicle.

You must register for, print, and display your permit

• Those eligible for a parking permit must apply online at http://www.newhaven.edu/parking to access the online parking system.
• All permits must be self-printed directly from the online parking system.

Displaying Your Permit

• Permits MUST BE DISPLAYED on the dashboard of the vehicle in the lower corner on the passenger side.
• Vehicles not properly displaying a valid parking permit will be ticketed and may be towed.

Lost or Stolen Permits

Permits that are lost or stolen must be reported to the University Police Department immediately.

Outstanding/Unpaid Parking Tickets

• Students who have outstanding unpaid parking violations may have a hold placed on their student account. All unpaid tickets will be added to the students Bursary account. 
• Faculty and staff members who have outstanding unpaid parking violations will not be able to obtain a parking permit and will be prohibited from parking on University property until outstanding parking fees have been paid.
• Vehicles on campus with outstanding parking fees and without a valid parking permit are subject to towing.

Exceptions

• Students, staff, and faculty normally restricted to their designated lots may park in designated commuter parking lots on the main campus:
• After 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. These vehicles MUST be returned to their assigned lots by 7 a.m. the next day.
• After 5 p.m. on Fridays. These vehicles MUST be returned to their assigned lots by 7 a.m. on Monday morning.

Parking on City Streets or in Unapproved Non-University Lots

• All faculty, staff, and students are STRICTLY PROHIBITED from parking on city streets in the neighborhoods adjacent to campus. Off-campus resident students residing at Savin Court, Main Street Apartments, and Forest Hills are also prohibited from parking on city streets and are subject to ticketing and towing. 
• Vehicles parked illegally are subject to ticketing and towing by the City of West Haven.

Temporary Parking Permits

• Temporary permits will be issued to those in the campus community who have already been issued a permit but may be utilizing another vehicle temporarily and have a short-term parking need. Temporary permits are issued for a period of no more than fourteen (14) business days and may not be reissued without review by the University of New Haven Police Department. These permits are issued online and are self-printed. It is a violation to print permits for vehicles not belonging to the vehicle owner. 

Parking for Persons with Disabilities

• Connecticut state law (Sec. 14-253a) restricts parking in designated handicapped parking spaces to vehicles displaying a valid handicapped parking permit issued by the State of Connecticut or any other state or country. The use of a handicapped parking permit is only valid and legal when the person with the disability is the driver or a passenger in the vehicle. Any misuse of this privilege will result in ticketing, and the vehicle may be towed at the owner’s expense. These vehicles must also display a University of New Haven parking permit if the owner/operator is a student or employee of the University. Vehicles displaying a valid handicapped parking permit can park in any marked handicapped space on campus.

Snow and Emergencies

• The University reserves the right to modify parking rules during inclement weather or emergencies when vehicles may have to be moved. Non-resident parking is prohibited during snow emergencies or impending snow emergencies, and operators of all vehicles parked on campus must move their vehicles, as directed.
• A VEHICLE IMPEDING SNOW REMOVAL OR ANY EMERGENCY RESPONSE MAY BE TOWED AT THE OWNER’S EXPENSE.

Speed Limit

• The campus speed limit is 15 miles per hour.

Enforcement

• Parking regulations on the University of New Haven campuses are strictly enforced.
• Students, faculty, and staff who have properly registered their vehicle(s) with the University Police Department will receive an email advising them of a parking ticket, tow warning, or the towing of a vehicle.
• The ticketing and towing of a vehicle, along with possible storage charges from the tow company, will be incurred. No part of this towing charge is controlled or received by the University of New Haven.
• AFTER A VEHICLE HAS RECEIVED THREE (3) PARKING TICKETS, IT MAY BE TICKETED AND TOWED FROM CAMPUS, AT THE OWNER’S EXPENSE, FOR EACH AND EVERY SUBSEQUENT VIOLATION WITHIN THE SAME ACADEMIC YEAR.
• Vehicles blocking fire lanes, crosswalks, sidewalks, dumpster access, parked in handicapped spaces or on the adjoining hash marks without proper authorization, or parked in a hazardous manner, may be towed from campus immediately without regard to prior violations.
• For the safety of the entire community, everyone is expected to obey all stop signs, observe the 15 miles per hour speed limit, use seat belts, and avoid the use of cell phones while operating a vehicle.
• University of New Haven tickets or state infraction complaints may be issued for moving violations and may become the subject of disciplinary hearings.
• By applying for a University of New Haven parking permit, you are agreeing to abide by all rules and regulations pertaining to the operation and parking of any motor vehicle under your control.
• Obtaining a permit by impersonating another, misrepresenting oneself, theft, fraud, or in any other illegal or improper manner will result in a $250 fine, disciplinary proceedings, loss of parking privileges, and possible arrest.

Payment of Fines

• Those who have received a University of New Haven parking ticket may pay fines online at www.newhaven.edu/parking or by mail to the address on the reverse of the ticket.
• Municipal parking tickets are to be paid at the West Haven Police Department.

Appeal Process

• University of New Haven parking tickets must be appealed within fourteen (14) calendar days of ticket issue. To appeal a ticket, please visit www.newhaven.edu/parking.
