The mission of the Financial Wellness Program is to provide students of the University of New Haven with valuable skills, knowledge and resources to help them make informed and effective financial decisions for a lifetime of financial well-being. 

We offer engaging and relatable programs, events and activities based on our student’s needs in money management skills and financial education. This includes tools and resources that encourage growth in obtaining financial wellness from the time they enter University of New Haven onto their future success after graduation.

What is credit and why do I need to establish good credit? What is the difference between a credit and a debit card? What is a credit report, and why do I need to know what is on mine? These questions and more are addressed in a discussion aimed at helping students understand the importance of establishing good credit.   

Protecting Yourself from Digital Scams

What is Identity theft and how does it occur? We will discuss credit card skimming, email phishing, spoofing and text scams, as well as being safe while banking online or mobile banking. Students will learn about digital wallets and person-to-person payment apps. Bottom line, it is up to you to do your diligence and protect your personal information from being hacked or outright stolen.

ECMC hosts monthly webinars that are free for UNewHaven students to attend! Registration is required.

The University has teamed up with a non-profit organization, ECMC Solutions, to provide FREE loan counseling services to help students manage their federal student loans.

Contact ECMC Solutions for any of your student loan questions:

  • One-on-one federal student loan repayment advice 
  • Lower the interest on your loan
  • Repayment plan options – choosing a long-term option
  • Forbearances and deferments – what they are and when might you need them?

The Student Financial Wellness Peer Program provides personal financial and money education to students.  It is a private and confidential resource for students to discuss financial questions and concerns.

SFWPeers are highly trained students with knowledge about accessing resources, tools and support for students. Peers do not provide tax assistance, investment advice, professional financial counseling or referrals to specific financial institutions.
